Is Permission Needed from Both Divorced or Separated Parents for the child to get a Drivers License?

In many cases even when there is sole physical custody, both parents will maintain joint legal custody.  If your judgment or agreement specifies joint legal custody, then both parents must agree for the child to obtain a driver’s permit or driver’s license.  Since California has different rules for drivers of various ages below the age of 18, the permission must encompass the appropriate authorization for the age in question.  Sometimes getting authorization from a spouse can be difficult, but, more often, the problematic portion is making sure the appropriate authorization for the child’s age is made.  To learn more about this and other important Family Law issues, contact Sagaria Law today to schedule an initial consultation.
